devastated by superstorm sandy. and travelers were stranded from boston to dallas. many roads remain impassable. our big story this morning, avoiding the fiscal cliff. the president and lawmakers don't have a lot of time. there are only a few days until the deadline. >> president obama is hosting top leaders from the house and senate at the white house for more talks later this afternoon. fox5's sherri ly is live at the white house with the latest. >> reporter: good morning, tony, good morning, sarah. the tone here in washington hasn't changed much since before christmas, and now we have days to go before the deadline and the nation going over this fiscal cliff. the president is hoping that this afternoon's meeting at the white house with congressional democrat and republican leaders will help break the standoff. both sides continue to play the blame game here. senate majority leader reid attacked house leader boehner for blocking a vote while the gop led house isn't due back

until sunday, a day before the deadline to avert the tax increases and spending cuts that could send the nation into recession again. the differences between the two sides, democrats want to raise money on everyone earning more than $250,000 a year. the president offered to up that to $400,000. republicans ejected new taxes, even though the speaker proposed on those earning a million dollars. instead, the gop wants deeper cuts. with the clock ticking, neither side is giving up ground. >> american people i don't think understand the house of representatives is operating without the house of representatives. it's being operated with a dictatorship of the speaker not allowing the vast majority of the house of representatives to get what they want. >> this is a conversation we should have had months ago. and republicans aren't about to

write a blank check for anything senate democrats put forward just because we find ourselves at the edge of the cliff. >> reporter: you're taking a live look at the floor of the senate. even though they are in session, they are not dealing with the fiscal cliff. the house again doesn't return until sunday, in hopes they'll be able to vote on a deal. the president has called on lawmakers to pass a scaled down legislation that would spare tax increases on the middle class, leaving more sweeping spending cuts and tax increases until next year. house majority leader cantor believes they could be in session the day before the new congress is sworn in, january 2nd. today's meeting is the first face to face meeting between the president and republican leaders since december 16th. senate minority leader mcconnell has said he is eager to hear what the president has

top stories now. sad news this morning, desert storm commander norman schwartzkopf has died. the retired general died from economy indications of pneumonia. he was given the nickname, storming norman and best known for leading international forces in iraq in 1991. he was 78 years old. former president george h.w. bush is in intensive care in a hospital this morning in houston county. he is battling several complications, including bronchitis and a fever. he was admitted to the hospital last month. here we go. >> hear the music -- >> you know what it is, yep. dave ross is hear to talk redskins, cowboys. hello there. >> what a show. when you have the first ladies of football in the house, right on in studio b. they played at my brother's wedding 10 years ago. >> did they really? >> incredible band.

>> that's fantastic. >> you have to stick around for them. from virginia beach. what a show. >> it's a great show. >> and by the way, the biggest game in town in two days at fed ex field. got all the trimmings, it doesn't get better than this. let's take you back to thanksgiving day. i was down there in big d, and i think we were texting a little bit during the game. i said, they have no idea how to stop robert griffin iii. really to me this was the true coming out party. national stage, thanksgiving, captive audience. everybody is watching this game. all he did was have a quarterback rating of 138.8 #. 19 of 27. four touchdown passes. over 300 yards passing. and they were blowing out the cowboys until late comeback by dallas, made it look better than it was. 38-31 the final score. this was the second win out of the six in a row streak the redskins are on. when you saw that, i think they started to believe, and now the

goal is for the team not to get too hyped before sunday's game. >> i told the guys don't play this up so big that you can't seize it. like i was telling you guys, got to make sure you approach it the same way that you have the past six weeks and know that, you know, it's for all the marbles, whatever you want to say. but don't play scared. you have to play like you have nothing to lose. >> football is an emotional game. you're at home playing for everything. if you lose it, you can lose control of the game really fast. penalties and turnovers are things that come as a result of lack of focus. so you have to be controlled, but you need to play with an edge. you have to play like when that clock strikes zero, going to the playoffs or going home for a long offseason. >> obvious advantages the redskins have, playing at home, they'll have a raucous crowd.

and they've been playing basically a win or lose game every week for the past six. when you start off 3-6, you can't afford to lose anymore. they haven't. haven't won the division since 1999. if they win sunday, the second time in 20 years. it's right there for the taking. it seems like and feels like it's time. rg3, and tony, we've talked about this, he doesn't speak like a rookie. >> he does not. >> speaks like a veteran. these guys follow in his footsteps. he says, this is the way i'm going to do it, and they follow his lead. >> what better way for this season to, for the regular season to come to an end. it's all on the line and you have to play dallas to get it. >> there are a couple of scenarios if the redskins were to lose that they could get in. but pretty much it's that win in the east or go home mentality. dallas has to win the game. >> i've not said this yet this morning, it will be a good

dave? >> and we have denise, correct? >> yes. >> how long have you been a cheerleader? >> three years. >> tell us about sunday's game in particular. cowboys coming in. do you have extra cheers? >> we've been practicing a lot. what we bring to the game is going to be our a game. we have several dances. our pregame will be great. we've been practicing really, really hard. it's a huge rival game. >> yes, it is. >> we're excited to bring the least on and we're -- heat on. >> it's just another sunday, correct? >> it's just another sunday. >> that's one of the things i'm curious about, because you guys obviously you're up for every game. you're probably the most excited people in the stadium during the course of the game, because you maintain that excitement level throughout the course of the game. but do you feel any added pressure just because its such a big game and it's dallas? >> oh, definitely. you definitely feel more pressure. you have a packed house, sold

out game. but it brings excitement. excited to go out there and put on a good show for the fans. excited for the game. >> breeann? >> i agree. growing up in texas, getting to see our team do amazing this season. >> thereadded something, because cowboys cheerleaders for years, had the american team label. but you are the first ladies of football, correct? >> we are. we celebrated our 50th year, and it was an extreme honor. we had alumni come back from the original team that danced with us, i think over 200 of us that performed. >> wow. >> it's definitely a humbling experience to be part of a great tradition. but to be here is a true honor. >> speaking of honors, one of these fewer beautiful ladies is going to hawaii to represent

here we go, 36 in leonardtown. 39 in salisbury. freezing mark, 32 the winning number in the mountains to the west and let's see, quantico you're 37 degrees. today will be a decent day. quiet day. if you're traveling, not expecting precipitation. not concerned with winter weather today. it will be early tomorrow morning when it arrives. this storm system taking shape is not a particularly strong one. couple of factors working against this being a big time snow maker for us. the other being it will be a quick mover. you can see getting breaks in the clouds. should be partly sunny here for at least the first half of the day. later this afternoon the clouds will roll in. fairly cloudy to the west. here's our next storm system. really a weak wave at this hour. will be coming up to the d.c. metro area today and tomorrow. we're going to have two areas of low pressure, one to the west and a secondary one redeveloping to the south and

east. as that one takes over, should drag more cool air in the region. bottom line, we're not exactly sure, like wednesday, monday, where the rain/snow line will set up. that will determine how much you'll see. farther west and north, the more snow early tomorrow. because of that, the national weather service has issued a winter weather advisory for the northern tier of maryland, portions of west virginia, northern virginia as well, as you're likely to see 2, 3, maybe an isolated 4 inches here across northern maryland during the morning hours tomorrow. here in washington, no advisories. weather service has indicated as we get closer to the event, likely to see a bit of an expansion in the weather advisory. don't be surprised if later today loudoun county, montgomery county, closer to washington we get an advisory as well. no issues for the weather today. just fine. tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m., and just like wednesday, like

monday, our rain/snow line setting up across the d.c. area. could it be 20 miles to the south and east? it could. 50miles? possibility. further north? yeah. we'll have to wait and see where this sets up. come back later today. we'll get you an update at 5:00, 6:00 and 10:00 tonight. the thinking is, the further north and west, the more snow you'll see and the longer the snow will stick around. like wednesday, have a tendency to transition to rain along the 95 corridor during the midday tomorrow. and it's out of here by midafternoon tomorrow. this will be a quick mover. doesn't have a lot of moisture to work with. but there may be in some cases just like wednesday and monday, enough accumulating snow that you might have to get out the shovel tomorrow morning. 42, partly sunny skies. wind not nearly like yesterday. 32 tonight. if it gets started early enough, will stick, even in the

three cancer killer in the country. every 10 minutes somebody dies of blood cancers. yet, we are on the process of getting new drugs making a major difference in people's lives. we funded over $800 million of research. $70millionlast year. we're really excited to be launching this campaign. >> jim, this is something that's near to your heart as well. you are a leukemia survivor yourself. nine years you've been in remission? >> nine years. the leukemia ball has been something i've been involved with. the first leukemia ball i went to, announced the discovery of a new drug. i thought it had nothing to do with me and two years later i'm on it and it's made all the difference. i missed only one day of work. i play tennis a couple of times a week. that's the type of cures we want to find for all patients. >> you're launching today, as we mentioned, someday is today campaign. this is the first time you've launched anything of this magnitude before. tell me what this, what you're

hoping to do with this campaign. >> what we're trying to do is really to get the people of this country to understand the great research we're funding, how close we are to finding cures and help get the support we need to raise additional research money. as i said, we gave $70 million last year to research. every dollar can make a tremendous difference in how we help fight this cancer. >> i know right now the ball is a huge event that you have. that's going to be coming up, and how can people help out? >> the ball is happening march 23rd here in d.c. it's the largest nonprofit fundraiser in d.c. we sell tables to a lot of corporate sponsors. we also have raffle tickets that are donated by mercedes- benz. you can get those tickets on our web site. a lot of ways people can help. we really look for our corporate sponsors and the people to get out there to support the ball. >> what would you say about, i guess the medication, the

treatments that are out there now? i mean, are you pretty impressed by where we are at with treating this disease compared to say nine years ago when you were just going into remission? >> sure, we've made a lot of progress. in my disease, if i had been diagnosed 15 years earlier, chances are i would not be here today. as it is now, i'm likely to live a long life and cancer won't be a part of it, other than taking my daily drugs. there's other new cures, work going on at the university of pennsylvania we've funded that's showing tremendous differences in patients. there's other research we're doing for aml. we still have a lot of work to do. a lot of drugs making a difference. blood cancer is a diverse type of diseases. lots of different types and we need to find cures for all of them. >> and any help i'm sure is
